Russian Ambassador to Turkey Alexei Erkhov spoke about how safe Turkish resorts were for Russians and the prospects for joint production of the Sputnik V vaccine. interview RIA Novosti, published on 8 February.
According to the diplomat, out of more than 1.5 million Russians who rested in Turkish resorts in 2020, only 438 cases of Covid-19 were detected, 11 people died. “Perhaps not everyone came into view, someone could catch the coronavirus on the way back. But on the whole, the measures taken by the Turkish authorities have proven their effectiveness, ”Yerkhov stressed.
Despite the fact that Turkey is sometimes accused of rigging statistics in its favor, and Israel even called it one of the most dangerous countries for the rest of its citizens, stating that about 20% of travelers returned from Turkey with Covid-19, a low level of infection insurers confirmed the coronavirus in Turkish resorts last summer. As previously reported by Profi.Travel Deputy General Director of ERV and Head of the PCT Insurance Commission Yulia Alcheeva, at the end of the season, there were very few Russians who became infected on vacation, most of the cases were mild. At the same time, there were many times more other insured events – injuries, drowning, cardiovascular diseases. Thus, experts generally consider the rest in Turkey to be quite safe.
Recall that the flight program to Turkey is expanding, all new airlines are announcing flights to Turkish resorts, the tour operator Coral Travel has already delivered winter charters from several Russian regions.
Yerkhov also noted that now in the republic there are rather strict restrictions (curfew, restaurants and entertainment establishments are closed), however, given the positive dynamics, the ambassador predicted their weakening in the near future.
In addition, the diplomat added that the possibility of joint production of the Sputnik V vaccine in Turkey is currently being considered, which in the future may also facilitate entry rules.
Only important. For the pros only.
