Travel news digest for February 18

On Thursday evening, February 18, news emerged claiming lightning: the head of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority Ashraf Nuweir said he expects the resumption of flights from Russia to Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghaduzha in March. It is not clear what the official’s optimism is based on – he did not give any details, except that the airline Nordwind requested permission to fly from 28 March. But just in case, let’s keep our fingers crossed – what if the Russian Government will really lift the five-year ban from charters to the Red Sea resorts?

Let’s get back to reality from forecasts. It is such that the majority of Russian citizens will, naturally, rest in Russia. If, of course, there is money. Based on the effective demand, tour operators are already making investments. So, the travel market appreciated the foresight of the co-owner of Biblio-Globus Alexandra Tugolukova, who bought another hotel on the Black Sea. Travel agencies note that other tour operators also need to invest in their own hotels, to work “according to the availability of rooms” in the season of 2021, when an unprecedented influx of tourists is expected at resorts, will not work.

However, Turkey traditionally claims a substantial part of the Russian tourist flow. Our tourists love this destination, but are waiting for the cancellation of the requirement for a PCR test upon entering the country. Perhaps these expectations will soon come true. President of the Republic Recep Erdogan announced that the main coronavirus restrictions will begin to be lifted from March, if the epidemiological situation allows.

Although, apparently, in some regions travel agents live in the past. In the professional Facebook community “Travel Presidium” are discussing an abandoned office in Ulyanovsk, on the windows of which you can still see tours from Natalie Tours and advertising for vacations in the Czech Republic, Thailand, Vietnam and Tunisia.

In turn, the dubious Telegram channel offers inexperienced travelers tours with 50% discounts. In order to understand how the resource manages to make such discounts, the correspondent tried to book one of the proposed options.

The co-founder gave a new reason to think about the restoration of international tourism Microsoft Bill Gates… The billionaire philanthropist believes that to contain COVID-19, an additional, third dose of a vaccine may be needed to cope with new strains of coronavirus, such as South African and Brazilian.

A separate block is news about holidays in Sochi. Videos with long queues for the lifts of the Rosa Khutor ski resort appeared on social media. The correspondent found out the details of the situation as of 18 February.

And tourists share with the editors of photos and videos, which capture the consequences of snowfall.
