The ability to reschedule a departure in a situation of uncertainty with the coronavirus is becoming one of the key requirements of passengers when booking tickets with airlines. In this regard, the share of tickets sold at non-refundable fares is rapidly decreasing.

This opinion was shared by the participants of the editorial broadcast of Profi.Travel “Lower prices or fewer seats: How the aviation market prepares for a difficult winter”.

As noted General Director of Amadeus Russia Leonid Marmer, the situation when the ban on international flights was introduced within one day, and airlines were postponing or canceling flights for several months, created an increased request for flexible booking conditions.

As a result, more and more airlines are starting to offer free flight transfer services. One of the recent examples is Aeroflot’s decision to postpone the departure date even half an hour before the flight, that is, even in a situation when the passenger was simply late for check-in.

A flexible tariff policy regarding the transfer of the departure date is currently extremely beneficial for carriers. According to Dmitry Gorin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vipservice Holding, the depth of booking air tickets has now significantly decreased, and most of them are sold for 3-5 days before departure. Thus, flexible conditions for the transfer will help restore passenger loyalty and increase the depth of sales, which is critical for airlines, especially in the upcoming season.

Only important. For the pros only.
