May holidays this year “will continue”: Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova instructed the Federal Air Transport Agency, Rospotrebnadzor and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assess the possibility of resuming flights with 20 countries, increasing the frequency of flights to 19 countries and opening 8 more Russian cities for international flights. The document was published in the Telegram channel “May Decree” on April 27.

The instruction was given “taking into account the emerging epidemiological situation in foreign countries”, as well as “the seasonality of infectious diseases and the long period of the upcoming holidays.” Authority proposals should include frequency of flights, routes and estimates of expected passenger traffic.

After May 11, regular flights on a reciprocal basis can be restored with Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Israel, Jordan, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Mauritius, Malta, Morocco, Mexico, Moldova, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia.

According to a Profi.Travel source, the first candidates for the opening are Greece, Cyprus and Tunisia. Also, the authorities must establish quotas and types of transportation – in addition to regular flights, decisions can be made on charters.

And the frequency of flights has been increased to Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Greece, Egypt, India, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, Maldives, United Arab Emirates, Korea, Serbia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Finland, Switzerland and Japan.

The airports of Bryansk, Nizhnekamsk, Magnitogorsk, Omsk, Syktyvkar, Chelyabinsk, Ulan-Ude and Ulyanovsk have every chance to start accepting international flights soon.

At the same time, the source said that the order may be rough – there is no signature of Golikova on it yet.

We will remind, Russia suspended international flights with other countries on March 27, 2020 in order to contain the pandemic. In the summer of 2020, the gradual lifting of restrictions began, however, due to the worsening epidemiological situation, flights to the UK and Turkey were again canceled. Now Russians can fly to 29 countries, but in most cases these flights are not available for tourists.

Only important. For the pros only.
